No.5 Louis Vuitton Damier Canvas Brooklyn GM

07 18, 2009

Marc Jacobs, the head designer of Louis Vuitton, prefers to give his bags the same name as the historic celebrities and famous architecture. It maybe where his inspiration comes from, or maybe means nothing, just for fun. Anyway, this time, Marc Jacobs does it again, Louis Vuitton Damier Canvas Brooklyn GM.
It is said that this city bag fashioned in Damier Ebony Canvas is inspired by the architectural grandeur of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. I am wondering what Marc Jacobs got from this one of the oldest suspension bridges in the United States. One point I guess is the long history. Obviously, Louis Vuitton loves the thing tested by years and involved in the special historic events, just as its bags. Louis Vuitton hopes each of its bags will be vintage. Look no further than Damier Canvas Brooklyn GM. Marc Jacobs injected enough modern elements into Brooklyn GM. However, what he first thought must be its function and durability, just as Brooklyn Bridge. Squelching the rumor of its collapsing after its opening in 1883, standing till now when many of the bridges built around the same time have vanished into history and been replaced, Brooklyn Bridge now still connects [...]

Since 1997 Marc Jacobs has been appointed as Creative Director of luxury French fashin house, Louis Vuitton. He is famous for collaborating with many popular artists for his Louis Vuitton collections. For instance, in 2001 he worked in conjunction with Stephen Sprouse to turn the Louis Vuitton logo into graffiti. While more recently, he sent models dressed as nurses down the runway in homage to a Richard Prince painting. As to his 2009 cruise collection, Jacobs collaborated with fashion illustrator Tanya Ling who created a series of illustrations of the range, as well as an exclusive striped print. Shown through the soft focus of Ling’s watercolours, Jacobs’s sharp tailoring and unique design greatly illustrate the theme of this collection, bright, feminine and flirty.
Traveller, a part of the Travel Shopper line from the Cruise 2009 collection by Marc Jacobs, is the ultimate 24 hour bag that can easily go from city to beach and even sea soirees. This handbag features cotton canvas, cotton lining as well as calf leather trimmings. The graphic design in the handbag is inspired by archives dating back to the 1920’s. You may wonder what the exact meaning of the graphic is. 101 Champs- Élysées in Paris, [...]

Stephen Sprouse, a fashion designer credited with pioneering the 1980s mix of “uptown sophistication in clothing with a downtown punk and pop sensibility”, collaborated with Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton in 2001 made the graffiti-printed fashion. This is a great and bold attempt for conservative Louis Vuitton. All graffiti pieces are sold out instantly. Then, they have a wider-ranged cooperation. I tried to use the things in Stephen’s vocabulary, and give the collection the shape, silhouette and styling that Stephen would have done when he was at the top of his game. It really is a complete homage, and a complete combination of what is Louis Vuitton, and what is this legendary icon, and then what are the icons and the lasting aesthetics that Stephen left in the fashion world.” – Marc Jacobs

2009 is a year to memorialize the great American artist Stephen Sprouse in the House of Louis Vuitton. Marc Jacobs chose to revisit the two motifs which, for him, best represent the legacy of Stephen Sprouse at Louis Vuitton: the graffiti and the rose. After the huge success of the limited-edition Stephen Sprouse collection, Stephen Sprouse’s rose motif appears on the Alma bag which was launched in new, eye-popping shades of glossy Monogram Vernis leather.
The classical Alma MM in Monogram Vernis leather is revamped with the Roses pattern of the artist. The Louis Vuitton Alma MM Roses bag is discreetly embossed Monogram Vernis leather, textile lining, plain vernis leather trimmings. The golden brass pieces and double brass pieces opening and padlock and removable key holder make the liquid-like [...]
